Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) is Australia’s largest autism-specific service provider, with one of the biggest autism-specific school programs in the world. A not-for-profit organisation, we work in partnership with people of all ages on the autism spectrum, and their families to deliver evidence-informed solutions that are person-centred, family-focused and customer driven.

Our services provide people on the autism spectrum with the opportunity to realise their unique potential, as well as providing much-needed support to their families, carers, friends and colleagues. Aspect’s vision is to provide the best possible opportunities for people on the spectrum. We believe that people on the autism spectrum are a different brilliant®.

A Board of Directors oversees the strategic direction and key accountabilities of Aspect. The Directors possess a mix of qualifications, knowledge and experience ensuring a skilled, effective and diverse Board.

At Aspect, we’re continually working to improve our services and approaches to supporting people on the autism spectrum and their families, by applying the latest knowledge and evidence available and evaluating our services and programs for best practice.

To help us do this, the Aspect Research Centre for Autism Practice is our own research centre dedicated to researching how we can best support people on the autism spectrum, and their families and carers, to have the best possible opportunities throughout their life.

Our research focus

Our research focus is not on finding a cure for autism or the causes of autism. Our focus is to identify the best possible ways to support people on the autism spectrum and their families and carers to realise their goals and aspirations, based on evidence from our own research studies and from other autism researchers around the world.

Our research program investigates all aspects of autism practice to support people on the autism spectrum and their families across their lifespan. This includes research into services for diagnosis, childhood intervention, education, transition to adulthood, employment support, community engagement, and ageing.

Aspect has been at the forefront in researching the everyday life experiences and needs of people on the autism spectrum. This research helps to raise awareness, promote discussion and pave the way for improving the services and supports that are essential for a good quality of life.
